Fashion & NY

What life is like once you decide what you really want to do when you "grow up" and move across the country to make it happen...

Sunday Brunch Fashion Week Style

Every Sunday me and my NY BFFs have brunch and today we went to a place that happened to be right across the street from Lincoln Center, home of #NYFW. I got to observe some interesting things watching ladies rush to get to the tents on this freezing afternoon.

Ok ladies, nothing screams “I’m not from NY” more than running around the city in dresses with no tights or open toe sling back shoes! Helllooo…it’s freezing outside please dress for the season so you look like you fit in and belong in these tents!

On a brighter note, I did see some emerging trends that I did love….Neon messenger bags…

I saw a few pinks and some oranges. Its great to see such bright colors here in NY…something to look forward to!

Another Market Week @ LANVIN

Last week I had the opportunity to work in the LANVIN showroom at MILK Studios for Fall 2012 Market Week. It was an amazing week! The clothes, shoes, bags, and accessories were incredible. It was exciting to see LANVIN on the Red Carpet this weekend at the Golden Globes. The dress Natalie Portman was wearing is one of the many amazing pieces from the collection. My obsessions for the season included a large shopping tote in orange and a black patent bowler bag as part of the Moon River collection, new to the LANVIN family. Orange is going to be a great color for this coming fall! Can’t wait to see the collection in stores mid August.

Talk about creative marketing…this is pretty impressive!

I am obsessed with Marc Jacobs!!! He is truly amazing! I’m very curious to see if he ends up at Dior…

Here are the highlights from Milan’s Spring 2012 Fashion Week. Key words: Flapper dress, twisted housewives, the 50s, bare mid-drift, gypsy, vibrant. There is a lot of gold and art deco inspired designs, especially in the Gucci line.

Check out the NYC Spring 2012 Fashion Week Highlights. My favorite part…color and prints! Loved hearing Rodarte saying marigold is their new constant neutral! I love yellow and it is going to be huge for the Spring!

Weather

One thing that makes it hard to live in New York is the weather! Being a Cali girl I find it very difficult to figure out how to properly dress out here…no matter what, I’m uncomfortable!

There is no trace of summer left here anymore. It is cold outside and today it was rainy. So of coarse I wear a jacket…even thought it is cold out I find myself getting hot while I’m rushing to catch the train. Then, the train stations are so warm I start sweating while waiting for the train. After I get off my stop and rush out to the exit, (still a little sweaty) I go outside into the cold and get chills…no wonder people in New York always get sick! The key, according to the east coast people, is to layer and to carry a bag that can hold your layers. I’m still trying to figure it all out!

In the process of preparing and figuring out how to dress for seasons other than Summer and Not Summer that SoCal has, I have purchased a few key items that are essential for NY.

The Trench…I have never owned nor worn one of these until now!

Rain Boots

And some not so essential but fun stuff like a Cape

and some Wedge Boots

Oh, the weather outside is weather…

Gucci

This summer I had the opportunity to intern at Gucci for the Men’s buying team. It was an incredible experience. One of the projects I worked on was assisting the head buyer with a presentation for the Saks sales team. I helped put together a mini fashion show with these looks from their fall collection. I got to dress the models and tell them when to walk out…it was pretty cool!

Through this internship I realized that I actually want to stay with Men’s. Men shop and think very differently than women. It makes my job more interesting and challenging when I’m not shopping for myself. With that said, for you men out there here are some of my favorite looks from Gucci for Spring 2012. I know we are barely entering Fall but we have to buy a season ahead and these are the stuff I have been looking at all summer.

With this blog I want to have something for everyone. Men’s and Women’s fashion and trends along with what it is like living and trying to make it in New York.

Straight from Fashion Week…Marc Jacobs is one of my favorite designers. He is amazing! I can’t wait for the day I get to see his show in person!

Sometimes I wonder what the F@*k I’m doing here?!?! And then I remind myself I’m turing my dreams into reality….this could really be a good life!
